The state of Nevada is unique in that the medical board nor legislation specify any requirements for laser treatments or education.

In 1998 an advisory opinion was stated by the board that the use of laser for cosmetic or medical treatments is considered the practice of medicine. As such, it should only be performed by a physician or delegated to non-physician with proper education, training, and physician supervision.

This opinion however was never put into statute or regulation.

In 2008, the Nevada Legislature’s Subcommittee of the Legislative Committee on Health Care met to discuss actual regulation of laser usage however no formal decisions or rulings were made.

As it stands, no education requirement is needed to perform laser treatments within the state however most medical offices will require outside training and hands on experience before hire.
